Relationship Skills For Teachers

What’s it about...?

‘Relationship Skills’ training focuses on the impact of the teacher’s social intelligence on student-behaviour , student-motivation and student performance. There are six skills: 1.Listen 2.Engage 3.Gesture 4.Tone 5.Praise 6.Humour.

How does it help...?

The aim of the training is to improve the teacher’s ability to adapt their gesture, tone and humour in order to create a calm classroom-environment where learning can flourish. The training will also look at the relationship skill of ‘mirroring’ and the profound impact this has on teacher-student relationships, student motivation, leading to improved exam results.

Who is it for...?

Recently Qualified Teachers who feel ready to make the next step beyond subject knowledge. Heads of Department who would like to establish relationship-skills throughout their subject-area. More established teachers who would like to add another strategy to their day-to-day teaching.

Relationship Skills For Students

What’s it about...?

‘Relationship Skills’ training focuses on giving students a social language to help improve their relationships in-and-out of the classroom. This social language is based around six emotional relationship skills: 1.Listen 2.Engage 3.Gesture 4.Tone 5.Praise 6.Humour.

How does it help...?

The training particularly helps to develop students’ awareness of other people’s moods, and teaches students the ability to adapt their mood in consideration of others. This training improves: listening, empathy and teamwork skills, reducing conflict in-and-out of the classroom.

Who is it for...?

Students from Years 7-13 upwards with poor listening skills. Students whose social skills are underdeveloped, making it hard for them to form relationships. Students who find it hard to follow instructions in the classroom, leading to regular sanctions and lost learning-time.

Relationship Skills For Leaders

What’s it about...?

‘Relationship Skills’ training focuses on giving leaders a social language in order to motivate, support and lead others. This social literacy is based around six skills. These skills are: 1.Listening 2.Engaging 3.Gesture 4.Tone 5.Praise 6.Humour.

How does it help...?

The training particularly helps leaders to recognise the relationship skills lacking in others and provides a framework to support the development of these skills. The training also shows how the six skills can be embedded into the fabric of the school, including staff-training, tutor-time, student-support and assemblies.

Who is it for...?

Leaders at all levels—from Middle-Leaders, to Senior Leadership to Headteachers. The training may also be helpful in implementing SEAL across the curriculum.
